What This Notebook Is About
This is a place where I share insights into the world of cybersecurity. I'm Drake Axelrod — a seasoned cybersecurity expert, and ethical hacker. Here, I aim to offer a professional yet approachable look into penetration testing and cyber defense strategies. My goal is to have a place where I can share my thoughts, methodologies, and experiences in the field of cybersecurity.
My Cyber Journey: From Intern to Industry Professional
My journey into cybersecurity began during my Software Engineering studies when I secured an internship that immersed me in discovering vulnerabilities, crafting custom exploits, and turning cybersecurity challenges into valuable learning opportunities. From there, I transitioned into a Junior Penetration Tester role, where I honed my skills in vulnerability assessments and real-world security challenges. Today, I proudly serve as an Offensive Security Engineer Consultant, where I lead comprehensive security assessments, mentor emerging talent, and continuously refine modern cyber defense strategies.
Key Milestones in My Journey:
- Internship Experiences: Mastering the fundamentals of ethical hacking and laying the groundwork for a career in digital security.
- Junior Penetration Tester: Tackling real-world security challenges and refining my skills in vulnerability assessments.
- Offensive Security Engineer Consultant: Leading comprehensive security assessments, mentoring emerging talent, and continuously refining modern cyber defense strategies.
What Fuels My Passion for Cybersecurity
Vulnerability Analysis
I am dedicated to identifying and addressing weak points in web applications, APIs, networks, IoT devices, and more. My approach is strongly influenced by my Software Engineering background, which helps me better understand the control flow and architecture of systems.
Leveraging Tools and Techniques
While I enjoy making my own tools, I also leverage industry-standard tools such as BurpSuite, Metasploit, Nmap, and Wireshark. I employ a variety of technical solutions throughout the entire penetration testing process, from reconnaissance to exploitation and reporting. However, as I mentioned, I also enjoy desiging and developing custom scripts in Go, Python, Shell, Rust, and other languages to create useful tools.
Problem-Solving and Innovation
I thrive on breaking down complex systems and architectures to identify potential vulnerabilities. My passion lies in tackling intricate cybersecurity challenges and devising creative solutions. My process combines structured analytical strategies with hands-on experimentation, resulting in tailored and effective security measures.
